High instep in children: what if slippers press on top?

If a slipper presses on the top of a child’s foot, a larger size may not solve it. The length could be correct while the upper leaves too little room for a high instep.
Try this fit check
Use the socks your child normally wears. Fasten the slipper so that it stays on without digging in, then let your child walk, sit and stand again. Check for a painful ridge or repeated redness after taking it off.
Compare the construction
- Does the opening widen enough for easy entry?
- Can the strap be adjusted without losing heel hold?
- Is a firm seam resting over the sensitive area?
- Does the heel slip when you loosen the fastening?
Confirm the length in the size table. If it is right, look for a different upper shape rather than extra length. Compare the openings and straps in our kids’ slippers collection. Do not expect a painful fit to “break in”. Seek clinical advice if pressure persists across well-sized shoes or the foot is swollen.
