Can leather barefoot sneakers go in the washing machine?

Leather barefoot sneaker with brush and cloth outside washing machine

A cold, short wash may sound harmless, but a washing machine exposes a leather sneaker to water, detergent and repeated tumbling at the same time. Those forces can affect the upper, lining, stitching and sole connections. Unless the care instructions for a particular pair explicitly allow machine washing, clean leather barefoot sneakers by hand.

Check the material first

Look at the upper and the shoe’s own care guidance. Fabric trainers can have different cleaning rules from smooth leather; the word “sneaker” does not make every pair machine washable. If using a new cleaner, try it on a small hidden area first.

Clean the pair without soaking it

  1. Brush away dry dust and grit with a soft brush. Remove dirt from the sole grooves separately.
  2. Wipe the leather upper gently with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid immersing the whole shoe or scrubbing with a stiff brush.
  3. Clean the laces on their own. Treat the lining according to its material, then leave the shoes open to air dry naturally.

If a stain persists or the leather colour changes, stop and use a product intended for that leather finish, following its directions. For your next pair, check the size table and browse our barefoot sneakers. The Amada Tea Green has a leather upper, making gentle hand cleaning the sensible choice.
