Child’s shoes fit in length but pinch the toes: why shape matters

Correct shoe length does not always mean free toes. A tapered toe box can press on the big or little toe even when there is enough length beyond the longest toe.
Look at the foot from above
Trace both feet while your child stands. Notice which toe reaches furthest and how the toes spread when bearing weight. Compare the outline with the front of the shoe, then check the model’s actual dimensions in the size table.
Warning signs
- The big or little toe is pushed sideways.
- Your child points to one painful spot at the front.
- The upper stretches tightly above the toes.
- Pressure marks remain along the sides after wear.
Ask your child to walk, stop and start again. Do not rely on a narrow shoe eventually stretching enough. Choose a shape closer to the foot rather than simply a longer size. For indoor footwear, compare our children’s slippers. If pressure comes with toe pain or repeated nail damage, speak with a healthcare professional.
