When to replace children’s slippers: foot growth and wear

Checking the fit of a child’s slipper

Replace children’s slippers before they cause pain. Young children may not describe discomfort clearly, and feet do not grow at a steady rate. Check the fit as well as the shoe’s condition.

Check the size

Measure both feet while standing and compare them with the internal measurements. Toes should not touch the end or curl. Look for pressure marks after taking the slippers off. Use the size table for the particular model when choosing a new size.

Check the pair itself

  • The sole is smooth, damaged or coming away.
  • The strap or other fastening no longer holds.
  • The heel has lost shape and slips off.
  • The footbed is worn through or bunches up.

There is no need to replace a pair by a fixed calendar. Decide from its actual fit and condition. Try on a spare pair again before use: your child may have grown out of it while it was stored. Compare available indoor slippers for children.
